"записка Брандейса"Изложение экономических и социальных фактов и доводов по судебному делу, не носящее правового характера. Такого рода записка была подготовлена Л. Брандейсом [ Brandeis, Louis Dembitz], ставшим позднее членом Верховного суда США [ Supreme Court, U.S.], при рассмотрении дела "Маллер против штата Орегон" [Muller v. Oregon] (1908) о продолжительности рабочего дня для женщин. (1856-1941) Брандейс, Луис ДембицЮрист. В 1916-39 - член Верховного суда США [ Associate Justice of the Supreme Court]. Выпускник Гарвардской школы права [ Harvard Law School] (1877). В 1879-1916 имел успешную адвокатскую практику в Бостоне, расследовал деятельность страховых фирм. Фактически произвел революцию в судопроизводстве своей "запиской Брандейса" [ Brandeis Brief] при рассмотрении дела "Маллер против штата Орегон" [Muller v. Oregon] (1908) о продолжительности рабочего дня для женщин. Выступал против монополизации транспортной отрасли и повышения тарифов, а также в других громких делах. Участвуя в делах, связанных с ньюйоркскими евреями-швейниками, заинтересовался проблемами евреев, в итоге возглавив сионистское движение. Сформулировал экономическую часть программы "новой свободы" [ New Freedom] кандидата на пост президента В. Вильсона [ Wilson, (Thomas) Woodrow] (1912), который, возглавив страну, назначил Брандейса членом Верховного суда, несмотря на протесты части делового сообщества и антисемитских организаций. Выступая за социально-экономические реформы и придерживаясь либеральных взглядов, часто наряду с О. У. Холмсом [ Holmes, Oliver Wendell] высказывал особое мнение [ dissenting opinion]. Поддержал конституционность большинства программ "Нового курса" [ New Deal]. В 1939 ушел в отставку.
